NCLEX-RN考试采用电脑适应考模式(NCLEX-CAT)，考题及数目依考生现场表现而定，最少75题，最多265题，考试时间共为五小时(含休息时间及考前练习时间)，每两小时休息十分钟。电脑每次显示一题，考生必须作答，否则不会显示下一题。考题由电脑依考生的程度而调整，直到电脑做出对考生的合格或不合格判断。
NCLEX-RN考试内容为：
Safety, Effective care environment 安全有效的护理环境(15-21%)
Health Promotion and maintenance 健康保健(17-23%)
Psychosocial integrity 社会心理的完整性(8-16%)
Physiological integrity 生理完整性(46-54%)
NCLEX-RN考试完毕后考试机构并不会告诉你考试的结果，而是将考生的成绩送交至考生申请的州所属的护士局，由该州的护士局在2~3周内将考试结果通知学生，如没通过，考生可以在可以在三个月后重新参加考试。
